dumpster in the driveway - east porch day 1

(the dumpster was supposed to be in the lily of the valley next to the house, where it's been during 3 previous tear-outs of various house parts. Unfortunately we made the mistake of building a fence, making dropping the dumpster the equivalent of parallel parking a 15-passenger Dordt Van in downtown Anoka during Riverfest. Jeff had mercy on the very nice driver, who tried very hard to put it where we wanted it, and told him to put it in the driveway.)

And so begins our porch project.

Here are a group of pictures, "before," if you will, for future reference:

(Please forgive gratuitous dog shots. The porch is where he likes to sleep when we're about a lot, and he couldn't figure out why I was wandering around out there.)

It's not a large porch, maybe 7 x 15 (Jeff would know), and we're going to completely demo it, down to the studs and dirt. The plan is: new windows, doors, floor, walls, ceiling, insulation, and heat (of which there is none now). Hmm, that's all? Then set up as a mud room/coat room/entryway, hopefully before snow flies (September ;-P). We briefly though of moving the laundry up here, but the expense of that combined with everyone seeing laundry when they come in had me vetoing the idea.

We have 3 porches on our house. The front porch we finished in the fall/winter 2 1/2 years ago. The back porches are stacked - the lower one is the main entry to our house, the upper one, full of peeling lead paint, used for storage, I go in maybe once every 2 weeks or so (but it's in the extended plan for finishing that, too).

A pox on 90 degrees this weekend, let the demolition begin!
